Bill Wuorinen's Osprey 2

This is my Osprey 2 amphibian,

powered by a

160-hp Lycoming O-320-E2A. It has the long wing

and long fuselage. I began this project as a hobby

in 1984 and have approximately 4,000 hours of

build time into it. First flight was October 17,

2001. Cruise is 125 mph, and it climbs at 1,100

fpm. The aircraft has a VFR panel, wing tanks, and

nav/strobe lights. I wish to thank my wife, Debbie

Lynne, for her continuous support and encouragement.

Thanks to George Pereira for a wonderful

design and technical support, and to Willie

Webster for doing the pre-close inspections. And

special thanks to Tom Irlbeck for doing the test

flights and for qualifying me in the aircraft.

Here is a letter written by Bill to the Osprey 2 Yahoo List

Yes, I really enjoy flying the Osprey. It is really responsive and you can get the numbers that George Pereira states in his specs. It flies a lot like the Lake amphibian, except better. It actually flies more normal than the Lake. It is a rudder airplane. You drive it around with your feet. Elevator and rudder pressures are very light. Aileron pressures are normal at cruising speeds, but are heavy below 90 mph. Mine has no bad characteristics in flight or on the ground, but the responsiveness takes some getting use to if you haven't flown a sensitive airplane. Stalls are straight ahead with no tendency to drop a wing. My advise is to get checked out by someone that is very good with small sensitive homebuilt. I haven't had it on the water yet. Our airport manager put a dock  right next to the seaplane ramp that has 4 ft high posts that would take my wing off. We have recently come to an agreement and I should be in the water soon.

Best regards,  Bill Wuorinen
