Gascolator
and Fuel Selector Valve for a Zenith 601 HD/HDS

A console was fabricated between the
instrument panel and the main spar to house the fuel selector lever, fuel guages,
and fuel pump switch. Also outside vents, master and mags plus stall warning
light from the AOA indicator and engine warning from the EIS. A copy of the
Autocad Lite panel drawing is available upon request. Email me at Charles.Long@gm.com.
The fuel selector mounting frame was made from a scrap piece of .025" 6061T6
and riveted in place with six A4 rivets. It's mounted on the aircraft
centerline between the main spar and heel plate doubler.
The console angle works out pretty
close to 45 degrees. In order to keep the fuel selector on the floor, the shaft
needs to be cut 1/2 way between the body and Selector handle. Selector is from
Aircraft Spruce and Specialty, P/N - 6749 for $21 & has the needed extra shaft
length. A hollow aluminum tube was purchased from a local R/C hobby store for
$5. It needed to be reamed out only slightly for a nice, snug fit. Two cross
drilled 3/32" roll pins were used to lock the parts together. The 45 and 90
degree elbow fittings were not easy to find and I ended up purchasing them over
the internet for a couple bucks a piece. The Company, called Portage Specialty,
provided prompt shipment and their Web address is shown below. Note that the
gascolator is mounted ahead of the fuel selector and Rudder pedals, also on the
aircraft centerline. Electric fuel pumps were mounted at Rib Station #6 to
minimize the suction line length and suction head (<4").
Happy building
everyone!
